Health check-ups (体检): cheap, fast, thorough

A full health check-up in China is one of the best health deals anywhere: a package with blood work, ECG, ultrasound, chest X-ray and a dozen organ-by-organ stations typically costs ¥300–1,000 — a fraction of the price in most Western countries, with results in days. Many foreigners time a 体检 (tǐjiǎn) into their China trip on purpose. Where to go: dedicated check-up chains like Meinian (美年大健康) and iKang (爱康国宾) are everywhere and package-based; public hospitals have a 体检中心 (check-up centre) that is similarly priced; international hospitals offer English-language packages at a premium. At chains, book a package online or at the desk — bring your passport. How it works on the day: go in the morning and fast from the night before (no breakfast — blood tests come first, and there's usually free breakfast after). You'll get a form and walk station to station — height/weight, blood draw, ultrasound, ECG, eye check, and so on — in any order, ticking each off. It's efficient and impersonal: staff may speak limited English, but every station is obvious. Results come as a booklet or in the chain's app about 3–7 days later; an international hospital or a bilingual companion can walk you through them in English.
