Golf in Weihai and Qingdao: visa-free trips, tee times, caddies and what it really costs
✅ Updated Oct 2026
Weihai (威海) and Qingdao (青岛), on the Shandong coast, have become the closest and cheapest golf getaway from Korea. Since China opened 30-day visa-free entry to Korean passport holders, golf trips that used to go to Thailand have been shifting here: Weihai's border posts logged over 37,000 foreign arrivals in the first five months of 2026, up more than 50% year on year, and over 80% of them entered visa-free. A price comparison of 18 golf destinations found Weihai and Qingdao packages the cheapest, at a median of roughly 620,000–660,000 KRW. Getting there: direct flights from Incheon take about 1 hour 20 minutes, and overnight ferries run from Incheon to Weihai and Qingdao if you want to bring more luggage. Check your airline's golf-bag rule before booking — on Asiana, for example, a golf bag counts within a 32 kg checked allowance together with one suitcase. Korean passport holders can currently enter China visa-free for up to 30 days for tourism; confirm the current rule before you fly. Where to play: Weihai Point Golf Resort, a clifftop seaside course often called "Asia's Pebble Beach", is the best known, and most of its caddies speak basic Korean. Other courses popular with Korean groups include Weigao Tian'an, Jinhu Asiana and the Weigao Hot Spring club in Weihai, and Qingdao International in Qingdao. Park golf (파크골프), popular with older Korean players, is also widely available around Weihai. The best seasons are March–May and September–November; summer is humid and winter on the coast is cold and windy. What it costs on the day: green fees are usually in the package, but caddie and cart fees often are not. Expect roughly ¥100–300 per player per 18 holes for caddie and cart, depending on the course, plus a caddie tip — commonly ¥100–300 per round, higher when one caddie serves two players. A Korean-speaking caddie can usually be requested in advance, sometimes for an extra fee of around ¥100. Carry some cash in yuan for tips; clubhouses take cards and Alipay or WeChat Pay. Booking: most Korean visitors buy a 3-night or 4-night package from a Korean travel agency.
