Avoid the holiday travel crush (黄金周)

During Golden Week (early-October National Day and the May Day holiday) and Spring Festival, hundreds of millions travel at once: trains and flights sell out, attractions are extremely crowded, and prices rise. If you can, avoid the first and last days of these holidays, book tickets the moment they go on sale (usually 15 days ahead for rail), or explore a quieter city instead.
